Jaynii Cultural Troupe was founded in 1997 at Jamestown, Accra. Since its inception, Jaynii has performed at countless functions in Ghana including Panafest, Emancipation, Ghana Tourist Board Excellence Awards, Global Call to Action Against Poverty, as well as at various music festivals and cultural events in the UK. The Jaynii Troupe includes an artistic director, coordinator, financial secretary, treasurer, choreographer, four dancers, and six drummers playing the supporting and master drums. Various members also play the flute, xylophone, maracas, and the bell. Even though Jaynii is well versed in all forms of Ghanaian music and dance, they have specialized in their own creativity, choreography, folk music and dance genre, as well as Afro-Jazz. Jaynii also offers workshops for street children to tap into their dance and musical talents and encourage them to channel their energy into meaningful activities.

JAYNII International FOLKLORE FESTIVAL

Promoting Unity and Development through Arts and Culture

Dear Friends,

We are priveleged to invite you all to our first ever JayNii International Folklore Festival slated for August 14-19, 2009. The theme for the festival is promoting unity and development through arts and culture featuring groups from all over the world.

The ultimate aim of the festival is to promote unity through acceptance of one another's culture thereby helping people gain understanding about all cultures, acquire knowledge and develop skills for living in a culturally diverse world.

Understanding culture helps one to show reverence to the past, experience the now and imagine the future. Join us this year as we move together amidst and beyond the music and dance.

Thank you,

Emmanuel Quartey
